What Should I Do Immediately After a Motor Vehicle Accident?

First thing you should do really is call 911. Okay? So, let’s start with that. Take care of your health first. There’s nothing in this world or in your life or our lives that’s more important than your health. So, start by taking care of that. Call 911. Get the help that you need.

If you’re physically able and capable after doing that, you should take pictures of the accident scene. You should take pictures of the other person’s car so that you have that documented.

Then as soon as you can after the wreck, you really should contact our firm. And the reason you should contact our firm is because all kinds of things are going to start to happen right after this. You’re going to have people from the other insurance company calling you up, wanting to talk to you, wanting to get statements from you. You’re going to have police officers that are going to want to get statements from you. You’re going to have hospitals that are going to want to ask you what happened. And very, very importantly, when you go to the hospital, what we see is just how many injuries are undiagnosed at the hospital. The most common injury that’s undiagnosed at the hospital is a concussion or traumatic brain injury. And people don’t realize that concussion is synonymous with traumatic brain injury.

So if you’ve been diagnosed with a concussion, that means a doctor has diagnosed you with having at least a mild traumatic brain injury. That is undiagnosed probably 80% of the time in emergency room settings because the ER doc and the triage nurse says, “Did you lose consciousness?” And if you say, “No, I didn’t lose consciousness,” then they just assume you had no brain injury. But they actually don’t go through all of the symptoms that really do indicate a brain injury.

When a client calls us, we go through a head-to-toe evaluation and ask them all the questions that are important for them to know. If they experienced these symptoms, then they need to communicate them to their doctor most importantly so that they can be fully diagnosed. And secondly, so that they can get all the treatment that they deserve and that they should receive. And third, so that they can be fairly compensated. It helps us help them. We actually go through about a half an hour question and answer about all the different symptoms they have so they can fully report them to their doctors. That’s a very important reason to contact us early.
