Truck Accident Lawsuit Filed in Thomasville Crash Over (You Guessed It) Rear-End Accident

Truck_Front

A truck accident lawsuit has been filed in connection with a crash that occurred on May 6, 2025, in Thomasville. The ensuing crash resulted in the deaths of two people and injuries to several others when a semi-truck crashed into several vehicles. According to the lawsuit, a resident of Tuscaloosa was seriously injured when her Nissan Rogue was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by a 45-year-old driver from Philadelphia while she was stopped at a red light on Highway 43.

According to accident reports, her vehicle reportedly flipped over and skidded down the highway, leaving her trapped upside down until she was rescued by two bystanders. She was then transported to Grove Hill Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The lawsuit, which has been filed in Clarke County Circuit Court, names 4 US Transportation Company of Chicago and the tractor-trailer’s driver as defendants. The plaintiff’s law firm said the driver is currently in the U.S. on a work visa and is facing two counts of vehicular manslaughter. He is being held in Clarke County Jail. Law enforcement is continuing to investigate the matter. The FBI is involved in the investigation.

An attorney representing the plaintiff said that, “Widely circulated dash cam video of the crash shows no sign of the trucker applying his brakes before impact. We are committed to fully investigating this matter and are confident that all the facts will come out.”

The lawsuit is seeking compensatory and punitive damages for the negligence, recklessness, and wantonness of the defendants.

Understanding the allegations made in the lawsuit

You may have heard the old adage that a driver who rear-ends another vehicle is always responsible for the accident. That statement qualifies as mostly true. It is certainly true of the several truck accident lawsuits we’ve discussed on our blog. These incidents should never happen, and yet they happen frequently enough for us to populate our blog with articles concerning rear-end accidents caused by semi-trucks.

In many cases, the driver simply isn’t paying attention to what they’re doing, has fallen asleep at the wheel, is distracted by their phone, or is under the influence of drugs and alcohol. In these cases, the plaintiffs can pursue both compensatory and punitive damages due to the extreme negligence that is committed by the defendant.

Punitive damages are awarded to punish a defendant for gross negligence or willful misconduct. We don’t know why exactly the driver of the vehicle crashed into the stopped cars, but we do know that it should not have happened, and two people lost their lives because of the driver’s negligence.
